Baptisms are celebrated on the second and last Sunday of the month after the 11:30 am Mass. Please call the Parish Office to register for an evening of Baptism preparation. This evening is scheduled for the third Tuesday of the month at 7:30 pm in the Parish Center. Our next meeting is May 16.
This preparation is mandatory if this is your first child or if it's been more than two years since your last child was baptized. During this evening of preparation, parents will receive a "Godparent Form" which must be completed by the Godparents and their pastor. Godparents are required to submit this completed form to the Parish Office a minimum of one week prior to the Baptism. The Godparent's role is very important to their Godchild's continual growth in living and learning the Catholic faith. Since being a Godparent is a serious responsibility, Godparents must meet the following requirements: Baptized, confirmed and an active practicing Catholic, 16 years old or older, not the parent of the child being baptized and if married, in a valid marriage recognized by the Catholic Church. Adults may receive this Sacrament after completing the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) program.
Reconciliation is available on every Saturday from 3:30 - 5:00 pm in our Church and also by appointment. Communal Reconciliation services are offered during Lent and Advent. For dates and times, please refer to the St. James Good News! bulletin or our parish web site www.stjamescatholicchurch.org Second graders celebrate their First Reconciliation in the late fall or early winter. RCIA participants prepare for the Easter Vigil by celebrating this Sacrament during Holy week.
First Holy Communion preparation is completed by children in first and second grades. Children make their First Holy Communion in the second grade. Adults may receive this Sacrament after completing the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) program. Volunteer Eucharistic Ministers provide Holy Communion to persons that are sick, homebound and hospitalized.
Communion is available during Masses each day. Occasionally we have a Communion Service in place of a Mass. We invite homebound parishioners to receive the Eucharist. Eucharistic ministers are sent forth from the 9:30 Sunday Mass to visit our home bound parishioners with our prayers and blessings and to share the Eucharist. Please call the Parish Offices to arrange home communion visits. Home Communion is also available during First Friday.
Confirmation preparation is completed by youth in the seventh and eighth grades. Confirmation is bestowed upon youth in the spring of the eighth grade year. Adults may receive this Sacrament after completing the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) Program.
Holy Orders are special roles within the church. If you're considering a call to the priesthood or the diaconate, please call Fr. Tom Weisbecker at 402-572-0499, ext. 14. If you are interested in the religious or consecrated life please call the Vocation Office at 402-558-3100.
Matrimony preparation requires time. Couples should contact our parish priest 6 months prior to the proposed date to begin the marriage preparation process. Couples will be asked to attend a Marriage Preparation pre-session, complete a FOCCUS inventory and study, attend one of a variety of educational programs and plan the celebration of the wedding liturgy. Couples should contact the Liturgy Coordinator regarding music and musicians three months prior to their wedding date.
For wedding planning help and music selection, please contact Josie Clarey, at least 3 months in advance.
