Reading and Reflection

Reading I:   Deuteronomy 30:15-20
Responsorial Psalm:   Psalm 1:1-2, 3, 4 and 6
Gospel:   Luke 9:22-25

Life and death are set before us.   We are usually coasting along without too many thoughts of death and then a weather incident happens and someone dies in a traffic accident, a tornado rips through the South, a stroke takes a life too soon, or a gunman opens fire.   Then we face death.

Each Lent God sets before us life and death in a gentle way until Good Friday.   What are our choices?  Are they choices that lead to eternal life?   Are they choices that lead to a healthy, safe life right now?   We might not want to think about death, but God knows we can grow this Lent towards better life choices now and for eternity.   God sets life and death before us.

Reminder:   Rice Bowls are in the Narthex with great suggestions for Lenten sacrifices.   Lenten regulations are in this week's Good News along with many Lenten activities.
