Friday after Ash Wednesday

Reading and Reflection

Reading I:   Isaiah 58:1-9a
Responsorial Psalm:    Psalm 51:3-4, 5-6ab,18-19
Gospel: Matthew 9:14-15

This, rather, is the fasting that I wish:
releasing those bound unjustly,
untying the thongs of the yoke;
Setting free the oppressed,
breaking every yoke;
Sharing your bread with the hungry,
sheltering the oppressed and the homeless;
Clothing the naked when you see them,
and not turning your back on your own.

God's words to us today are serious and somber.   This is the fasting God wants.   How will we respond?   Look over this list and ask God what you might do.   Then resolve to do it.   Don't miss this opportunity to let your light shine.

Reminder:   Rice Bowls are in the Narthex with great suggestions for Lenten sacrifices.   Lenten regulations are in this week's Good News along with many Lenten activities.

     The readings can be accessed at  http://www.usccb.org/nab/020808.shtml This is an easy click to the daily readings.  Use the back button on your browser to return to the reflection.    We continue to build this ministry and pray for parishioners to contribute monthly.
