Wednesday of the First Week of Lent

Reading and Reflection

Reading I:   Jonah 3:1-10
Responsorial Psalm:   Psalm 51:3-4, 12-13, 18-19
Gospel:   Luke 11:29-32

The word of God came to Jonah a second time.   That gives me hope.   Sometimes I am like Jonah and resist the word.   Then I regret it and hope for a second chance.   This week I've been preparing for the women's retreat this Saturday.   I've thought about some things I didn't do or did poorly.   God has given me so many second chances.   This retreat is a second chance for me to do several things.   I think God wants them done and done well.   And that's probably why God continued to call on Jonah.   He wanted to save Nineveh, despite Jonah's reluctance.    Jonah probably didn't know what or why God was acting, he just didn't like Ninevites.   I, don't know what God is going to do with my sacrifices, but I love these women and have prayed that they will all have a wonderful retreat and a great Lent.   God bless them all.

Reminder:   Rice Bowls are in the Narthex with great suggestions for Lenten sacrifices.     Be sure to fill out the card at Mass this weekend and pick up your packet for the 2008 Year of growing in God's grace.
