Friday of the Third Week of Lent

Reading and Reflection

Reading I:  Hosea 14:2-10
Responsorial Psalm:   81:6c-8a, 8bc-9, 10-11ab, 14 and 17
Gospel:   Mark 12:28-34

In our reading today, we are commanded to love the Lord completely and then to love our neighbors as ourselves. It reminds me of the cross. The vertical wood represents our relationship to God and the horizontal wood represents our relationship to others. I have always felt that if we have a healthy relationship with God, our relationship with others will also be healthy.

The evil one would like to break that bond that we have with God. He would like us to think that God doesn’t care about us, is disgusted with us and that we might as well give up and turn ourselves over to what the world says to do.

When that happens, our relationship with other Christians can affirm our call to holiness and can gently guide us back.

When our relationships with others start to fall apart, our bond with our God, through prayer, the rosary, and reconciliation can gently guide us back.

During the week, let’s examine the strength of our bond with God and our bond with others.  PS
