How often have you eaten with sinners? Of course, we always do because we are all sinners. But the real question is how often do you offer hospitality to society's outcasts? When have you done something face to face with the poor? When have you offered your friendship to a stranger? When did you go out of your "comfort zone" and welcome someone into your life? Last year I challenged our SJ Monday Bible Study group to put a face on the homeless. To do something personal. Several members decided to serve dinner at Siena/Francis house. It was a scary experience. They wanted to car pool for safety's sake. And the first time we went, they stayed in the kitchen and served up the trays. GREAT! By now, they are comfortable taking the trays to the guests and speaking to them. GREAT! The challenge continues each day - eat with
sinners, welcome strangers, clothe the naked...you don't have to look
far for opportunities. |
