Monday of the Second Week in Ordinary Time

Memorial of Saint Agnes, virgin and martyr

Reading and Reflection

Reading I:   1 Samuel 15:16-23
Responsorial Psalm:   Psalm 50:8-9, 16bc-17, 21 and 23
Gospel:   Mark 2:18-22

This week there are many pro-life activities including a day of penance January 22, the Pro-Life Vigil Mass on January 25 and the Walk for Life on January 26.   They give us the opportunity to remind the world that we are named and created in the womb by God to serve that each of us might respond with "Here I am."   We also celebrate the life and mission of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr this week.   This prophet of God challenged us all to change from prejudice to respect.  At St. James we have many opportunities to be pro-life, pro-people!   On Monday night at 7:30, Dick Stole, from the Nebraska Children's Home will speak on adoption, foster adoption and teen shelter.   Please come and learn.

The readings can be accessed at  http://www.usccb.org/nab/012108.shtml This is an easy click to the daily readings.  Use the back button on your browser to return to the reflection.    We continue to build this ministry and pray for parishioners to contribute monthly.
