Third Sunday in Ordinary Time

Reading and Reflection

Reading I:  Isaiah 8: 23 - 9: 3
Responsorial Psalm:   Psalm 27: 1, 4, 13 - 14
Reading II:   1 Corinthians 1: 10 - 13, 17
Gospel:   Matthew 4: 12 - 23 or 12 - 17

Isn’t it comforting to know that God promises that the “yoke” will be lifted and once again there will be joy and rejoicing.  This message is shared in the first reading as to how God will deliver His people.  Matthew’s gospel shows that this prophecy was fulfilled by and through Jesus Christ.  Jesus’ life illustrates that He is the “light” of hope.  He continually lives a life of service and preaches the Good News.  He calls the apostles to continue share the message.  Each of us is asked to continue this work – follow the Lord and spread the message while living a life of hope, love and service.

In these times of strife throughout the world and violence in our city, how important it is to be reminded through the words of this message.     CH
