Tuesday of the Third Week in Ordinary Time

Reading and Reflection

Reading I:   2 Samuel 6:12b-15, 17-19
Responsorial Psalm:    Psalm 24:7, 8, 9, 10
Gospel:    Mark 3:31-35

In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus took us beyond our usual understanding of such words as “comfort,” “rich,” “poor,” and “sick.” He helped up understand that those who we might perceive as full of life’s goodnesses might actually be poor and those who we perceive as poor, may actually be full of life’s true goodnesses.

In the Gospel today, Jesus asks us to reexamine our usual understanding of “family.” In the community of believers, we find our true family, which might not be the same people as in our biological family. God becomes our Father, Jesus is our Brother and the members of our church are our brothers and sisters.

During the week, let’s think of everyone as our family and include those who might be marginalized in society.   PS
