Jesus spoke in parables many times. In this Gospel
parable, he helps up to understand it. The seeds that fell on the path
were easily eaten up by the birds or as Jesus mentioned, people taken by
Satan. The seeds that fell on the rocky ground didn’t have enough soil
to be nurtured and thus were burnt up. Jesus explained this as people
who initially have joy but since they have no roots, they die when
tribulation comes. They can’t sustain their faith during times of trial.
The seeds that fall on thorns are soon choked out by the growing thorns.
Jesus says that these are like people who hear the Word but become
wrapped up in the worries of the world and the lure of riches and are
choked by those concerns. |
