Saturday of the Seventh Week of Easter

Reading and Reflection

Reading I:    Acts 28: 16 - 20, 30 - 31
Responsorial Psalm:  Psalm 11: 4, 5, 7
Gospel:  John  21: 20 - 25

How often when our children were young would they come to us seeking justice after a fight.   Seems they would want us to punish the other child despite the fact that both would be involved in hitting each other.   We would have to tell them that they had to be concerned about their own behavior, not the others'.   We would ask them what they did, what they needed to do.

Jesus is asked about the "other disciple" and today I am imagining it is possibly jealousy that prompts the question.   Peter may have real concern, too, I don't want to be too hard on him.   It just sounds so much like the comments a little one makes to a parent.  And Jesus immediately tells Peter that everyone is in Jesus' care and Peter's task is to follow Jesus - nothing else.   Jesus loved the "other disciple" and so must Peter.

Because we follow Jesus the stories of Jesus continue today and will not fit in a book.   Let us not judge ourselves by others' standards or judge others by our standards, let us all follow Jesus as best we can.

Come Holy Spirit!

Today let us pray for St. James Parish and the Pastoral Staff.

The readings can be accessed at  http://www.usccb.org/nab/readings/051008.shtml  This is an easy click to the daily readings.  Use the back button on your browser to return to the reflection.    We continue to build this ministry and pray for parishioners to contribute monthly.
