Melodrama/Olio

Melodrama Page

Money Isn't Everything or All You Need is Love and the Olio, The Thing Is...!  Performance Dates are February 17, 18, 19, 23, 24, 25 at Sokol Auditorium.   Tickets are $23 each and include refreshments.   Roundtrip bus service from SJ is available each night for $5.   To purchase tickets, please call Lil Chatfield, 402-493-3326.

This yearly entertainment is put together and performed by registered SJ and SEA parishioners who are out of high school.  You can work backstage, concessions or onstage as actors, singers, dancers or crew members.   Sign-ups for the Olio (musical portion) and auditions for the Melodrama take place before Christmas.   Rehearsals begin in January and performances are two weekends in late February.

The Play:  Charles Strongbux and Bertrand Waterford III have escaped their boring lives as rich guys in Connecticut to be construction workers on New York's new Empire State Building.   They live at Bea Goodhart's boarding house and are drawn into her battle with the evil Ben A Conniver who holds the mortgage on her home!

The Olio:   Get our your umbrellas!   Ladies will enjoy singing and dancing to the 80's R&B song, "Raining Men."   A large group of men will charm the audience as they always do with Eddie Rabbit's "I Love a Rainy Night".  It might take the whole cast to share the applause for "Don't Rain on My Parade"!

Take the chill off your winter months!  Come spend six weeks with a warm, fun-loving group of SJ and SEA parishioners as we prepare for our 2017 Show, our 42nd production, coming in February!  This might be the year for you to join the rest of the amateur singers and dancers in the Olio, "The Thing Is..."   Learn all the answers to Who, Where and What.   Dreamers will want to sing Journey's "Don't Stop Believin."   And you'll "Ease on Down the Road" to the lyrical magic of OZ.   If you choose to audition for the Melodrama, you'll find that nothing says FUN like The Great Depression and Prohibition!   Being a part of "Money Isn't Everything" or "All You Need Is Love," you'll live in 1930 New York City.   The Empire State Building is under construction and Ruth and Gehrig both play for the Yankees!
