Book Review Club

This group meets once a month, April through October.  You don’t have to read the book.   Just come to hear the review.  The book club meets on the 4th Monday of the month unless it's a holiday at 7 pm in the Parish Center.    All are welcome!

Melodrama/Olio

Melodrama Page

This yearly entertainment is put together and performed by registered SJ and SEA parishioners who are out of high school.  You can work backstage, concessions or onstage as actors, singers, dancers or crew members.   Sign-ups for the Olio (musical portion) and auditions for the Melodrama take place before Christmas.   Rehearsals begin in January and performances are two weekends in late February.

Our 43rd Production is coming Feb 16-18 and 22-24

In the Melodrama, Jefferson Randolph Smith is a master con man.   He and his pretty sister, Gigi, have swindled prospectors, preachers and politicians in many Gold Rush boomtowns.   Will they meet their match in Nome business women, Annie Strong and the new lawman in town, Marshall Matthew Fate?   Ernie the Hermit, a frequent visitor to the General Store, often proves useful though his unkempt ways annoy the store bookkeeper, Olivia Snow Owl.   Captain Gretchen Hassel of the Salvation Army has opened a soup kitchen for the down and out prospectors.   She'll also help laundry lady, Mrs. Irving, save her husband Ivan from the evils of drink.

In the Olio, most of the cast will be "Hooked on a Feeling" performing to this POP song of the late 1960's.  Remember BJ Thomas ... and from the 70's "Blue Suede"?   We'll do them proud!   A little GOSPEL music takes us "Down to the River to Pray" and some SOUL has the cast singing "Say a Little Prayer".  Put on your dancing shoes and warm up your vocal chords in the shower!   You'll feel like you're #1 when you "Bop to the Top".  Elvis Presley, still his trim, handsome self, was the first to perform "A Little Less Conversation" in 1968.  Now it will be reprised by our singers and dancers!

Come join a fun loving group of SJ/SEA parishioners as we prepare for our 2018 show.   The Olio would love to have you or would you rather audition for the Melodrama?   The play "Your Mine is Mine" or "There's No Place Like Nome" will take you to Alaska where you'll be involved in the Gold Rush of the late 1800s.  The Olio is "Different Strokes for Different Folks" which explores numerous genres - so get ready for soul, blues, swing, country and more!

Save the Date - Sunday, November 19 at SJ Parish Center.  Sign-ups for the Olio are at 2, followed by auditions for the melodrama at 2:30.   Remember that you must be a registered member of SJ or SEA and be out of high school.
