Fr. Marcus Knecht

Hello, I’m Fr. Marcus Knecht, your new Associate Pastor.

I grew up going to public school in Forest City, Iowa (less than two hours east of Okoboji) and received my BA in Computer Science from Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa. I moved to Omaha in 2005 to work as a Technical Support Analyst. It was the perfect job for me and I thrived there for a while.

St. James became my parish and I quickly got involved in the many young adult activities and Bible studies offered throughout the archdiocese for growing in my faith and learning about it from an adult perspective. Faith has always been important to me and as I got older it also became important to share my Catholic faith, offering real answers to the misunderstandings that many have about it. I joined the local boards for Theology on Tap and the Pro Sanctity Movement. I also helped the Faithful Builders group for Habitat for Humanity. Traveling to many countries has been a blessing to me. It is almost a hobby. In my spare time I like to socialize by playing all sorts of lawn/card/board games. I'm not afraid to try new things.

In 2010 I answered the call to join the seminary and graduated from Kenrick-Glennon in 2016. During my time in the seminary, St. James remained my home-away-from-home as I stayed at the rectory during school breaks when I wasn't with family. My first assignment as a priest was being the Associate Pastor at St. Patrick in O'Neill and St. Joseph in Amelia. I also taught 9th & 11th grade Theology at St. Mary Catholic School in O'Neill. St. James parish has been such a blessing in my life and I am looking forward to serving you all. May God bless our time together.
