Gina Volenec

Hello! I am Gina Volenec, and although I have been in the parish for 23 years, I am absolutely certain that I have not met everyone! I would like to introduce myself as the new Volunteer Coordinator, Stewardship Coordinator and Good News! editor for St. James Parish.

I grew up in Winnetoon, NE, which is a very small town in Northeast Nebraska where citizens park in the middle of Main Street to patronize the three main businesses. After graduating from high school in Creighton, I went on to obtain a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education, Special Education and Secondary English Education from the University of Nebraska-Kearney and Kansas State University. After spending 7 years as a youth ministry director with Central Kansas Youth for Christ/Campus Life, I began my career as a probation officer and state trainer, eventually moving into management with Nebraska State Probation. In January 2018, after 25 years with the State, I retired and have been completing projects at home and working part time at Mulhall‘s. I decided to again enter the full time work force, and because I want to serve people, I pursued the job I now hold at the parish.

Raised in the protestant faith, I experienced growth in several denominations including Lutheran, Independent Fundamental, Pentecostal and Evangelical. I refer to it as a Heinz 57 background! After my husband, David, a Sergeant with OPD, and I married in 1994, I completed the RCIA program at St. James and joined the parish. We have 2 children who were raised in St. James and St. James/Seton School. Anna will be a Sophomore at the University of Nebraska-Omaha and is pursuing her dream of serving the community as a prosecutor, and Will is entering his Sophomore year at Creighton Prep, where he is playing baseball and accepting the challenge to deepen his faith so he can live as “A Man for Others”.

While at St. James, I have been involved in several stewardship opportunities including PRE, Kids for Jesus, SJS Total Board of Education, Growing In God‘s Grace/Casting the Net, Parish Council and various Bible Studies. I look forward to continuing to invest in the people of St. James to help further the Church‘s mission of evangelization.

Please pray for me to be a faithful servant in this new endeavor.
